Bushtit in flight

A large flock of bushtits appeared a few days ago ravaging the clusters of blossoms on our winter-blooming cherry tree. At first I thought they were eating the petals, as I have seen some birds do, but it became apparent that they were finding food, presumably tiny insects, in among the blossoms. They swarmed over the tree for about 15 minutes, occasionally stopping to take in some sun, and then vanished. These tiny active birds have been described as ping-pong balls with tails. They weigh the same as two pennies, and their wings are slightly less than two inches long.
